Terms of service

Effective 24 August 2026

These terms govern SaveState accounts, subscriptions, encrypted backup storage, restores, and related support. Creating an account, starting a trial, or buying a subscription means you accept them.

If you buy for an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind it. Business customers whose backups contain personal data also agree to the Data Processing Addendum.

The service

SaveState provides Windows software and hosted infrastructure for creating, storing, monitoring, and restoring encrypted backups. You remain responsible for selecting the data to protect, keeping working recovery credentials, maintaining suitable local or independent copies, and periodically testing restores.

Accounts and encryption keys

You must provide accurate information, protect account credentials and encryption material, and promptly report suspected unauthorised access. Backup data is encrypted before upload. SaveState account recovery can restore account access but cannot recreate a lost customer-controlled decryption key; losing all valid key material may make backups permanently unrecoverable.

Plans, prices, trial, and renewal

SaveState has three customer-facing tiers: Basic 10 GB, Pro 150 GB, and Enterprise 1 TB. Basic permits up to 2 enabled scheduled backup profiles, Pro up to 5, and Enterprise up to 20. Manual-only profiles do not count toward this scheduler limit. Each tier is available with monthly or three-month billing at the DKK or USD price displayed on the pricing page and in Stripe Checkout. Denmark defaults to DKK and other countries default to USD; you can change the currency before Checkout. These are separate fixed catalog prices rather than a live exchange-rate conversion. The Checkout total is the recurring subscription amount charged by SaveState. Stripe Tax is not currently used to add VAT automatically; any tax SaveState is legally required and configured to collect will be shown before payment confirmation.

A valid affiliate link can apply its associated promotion automatically, and a customer may enter a valid affiliate code on SaveState before Checkout. Before the first positive paid invoice, the latest link replaces an earlier link and a manually entered code takes priority over a link. The first positive paid invoice permanently fixes that customer to one Affiliate, so no payment can credit two Affiliates. Genuine self-referrals are permitted; fraudulent, test, unpaid, reversed, or disputed transactions do not earn commission. The discount amount, eligible currency, and duration are shown before confirmation. Affiliate arrangements do not increase the customer’s price or give an Affiliate access to customer email addresses, payment credentials, accounts, or backup data. Affiliate participation is governed by the Affiliate Agreement.

Eligible new accounts may receive one 14-day trial on Basic. An account must be created before Checkout, a valid payment method is required, and the trial converts to the selected paid Basic subscription unless cancelled before the trial ends. Accounts that have previously used a SaveState trial are billed immediately. Pro and Enterprise begin billing immediately. Subscriptions renew for the selected monthly or three-month interval until cancelled. Stripe processes payments and may request billing or tax-identification information.

Cancellation and consumer withdrawal

You can cancel through the account dashboard. Cancellation stops future renewals and normally takes effect at the end of the paid period; service continues until then. Except where law requires otherwise, amounts already charged are not refunded merely because you stop using the service.

If you are an EEA consumer, you may have a statutory 14-day right to withdraw from a distance contract. To exercise it, send an unambiguous request to billing@savestate.dk. By asking SaveState to activate the service immediately, you request performance during that period. If you withdraw after performance has begun, a proportionate charge for service already supplied may apply where permitted by law. Nothing in these terms removes a mandatory consumer right.

Expiry, grace, and deletion

Whenever a subscription ends—including cancellation, the end of a trial, or failed payment—normal backup access ends and a three-day restore-only grace period begins. New backups are blocked during grace. SaveState sends an expiry notice when the service enters grace. At the deadline, restore access ends and SaveState permanently deletes the service’s Backblaze bucket, every backup-object version, snapshot and folder metadata, related service-usage state, and—when no other service uses it—the encrypted vault-key envelope.

Automatic subscription expiry does not delete the global login or records SaveState must retain for account security, accounting, fraud prevention, or disputes. The customer can sign in and buy a new service later, or can request full account erasure through privacy@savestate.dk, subject to records SaveState is legally required to keep.

Storage and data transfer

Basic includes 10 GB, Pro 150 GB, and Enterprise 1 TB of optimized backup storage. Usage is the actual encrypted Kopia repository footprint after compression and deduplication, including the packs, indexes, metadata, and stored object versions that occupy space in the customer’s Backblaze bucket. Identical data shared between restore points is normally stored once. The original source data represented by retained restore points and any displayed optimization savings are comparison statistics and do not determine the quota. Deduplication varies by workload, so the amount of source history that fits cannot be promised in advance.

Uploads, restores, and encrypted repository reads performed by the backup software are included at no extra charge, with no routine monthly transfer quota or paid per-GB overage. Acceptable-use and security controls still apply. Expiring or deleting a snapshot may not reduce physical usage until Kopia maintenance safely reclaims unreferenced packs. SaveState provides temporary reclamation headroom and attempts maintenance near the plan limit; new backups may pause if the repository remains full or reaches its internal safety ceiling.

Acceptable use

You may not store unlawful content, distribute malware, infringe third-party rights, probe or access other accounts, bypass quotas or security controls, disrupt the service, or use SaveState in a way that exposes SaveState or its providers to legal or operational harm. We may suspend affected access when reasonably necessary to stop abuse, protect customers, or comply with law.

Availability and changes

No backup system eliminates every risk. SaveState does not promise uninterrupted operation or that every restore will succeed, and customers should maintain a recovery strategy proportionate to their data. Encrypted backup objects depend on Backblaze B2; SaveState’s edge, application, queue, and database functions depend on Cloudflare; and payments depend on Stripe. A provider outage, data-loss event, suspension, or material service change can therefore affect SaveState. Backblaze’s or another provider’s published durability or service objective describes that provider’s infrastructure and is not an independent SaveState guarantee.

SaveState remains responsible for the service decisions and legal obligations that cannot be transferred to a provider. We may change features or these terms. Material changes will be communicated through the website, service, or account email before they take effect where required.

Paid pilots and prerelease features

If an order or invitation expressly identifies the service as a paid pilot, the core subscription, encryption, grace, and deletion terms still apply, but the pilot may contain defects and does not include a service-level agreement unless the order says otherwise. Any pilot-specific scope, support contact, price, and end date must be stated in the written order or invitation. A pilot label does not remove mandatory consumer or data-protection rights.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SaveState is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, or loss caused by customer configuration, unavailable key material, unlawful content, failure to keep an appropriate recovery strategy, or an event wholly outside SaveState’s reasonable control, including an upstream provider failure. For a business customer, SaveState’s aggregate contractual liability is limited to the subscription fees that customer paid SaveState during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. This limitation does not apply where liability cannot legally be limited, including mandatory consumer rights or liability arising from fraud, wilful misconduct, or gross negligence.

Law and complaints

These terms are governed by Danish law. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of mandatory protections in your country of residence. Please contact support@savestate.dk first so we can try to resolve a complaint.
